Day 1 Ulaanbaatar: A Grand Welcome
Arrive in Ulaanbaatar and check in to the luxurious Shangri-La Hotel. Spend the evening at leisure-explore the city’s vibrant streets or unwind at a cosy café. End the day with a delicious local dinner.
Day 2 Journey To Amarbayasgalant Monastery
Set off on a scenic 312 km drive to Amarbayasgalant Monastery, passing Mongolia’s endless grasslands. Stop for a peaceful picnic by the Orkhon River before continuing on, with the final 30 km on dirt roads. Settle into a traditional ger camp, embracing nomadic hospitality in the serene valley.
Day 3 From Temples To River Retreats
Start the day exploring Amarbayasgalant Monastery, soaking in its spiritual atmosphere. Then, head north toward Lake Khuvsgul, stopping for lunch in Erdenet town. Continue to the tranquil Delgermurun River, where you’ll stay in a ger camp beneath a star-filled sky.
Day 4 Lake Khuvsgul
Travel north to the breathtaking Lake Khuvsgul, crossing varied terrain. En route, visit the Deer Stone Complex, an ancient monument dating back to 3000 BC. If lucky, catch a glimpse of traditional horse racing along the way. Arrive by early afternoon for a guided walking tour of the area. (3.5-hour drive)
Day 5 Exploring Lake Khuvsgul
Spend the day at your own pace, soaking in the pristine beauty of Lake Khuvsgul, Mongolia’s “Blue Pearl.” Enjoy guided hiking through the surrounding wilderness, with endless panoramic views.
Day 6 Lake Khuvsgul To Zuun Nuur Lake
Depart for Zuun Nuur Lake, pausing in Murun city for fuel. Journey 280 km across alpine landscapes on a mix of paved and dirt roads. Arrive at your peaceful ger camp, nestled by the lake. (5.5-hour drive)
Day 7 Terkhiin Tsagaan Lake
Embark on a rugged drive to Terkhiin Tsagaan Lake, navigating mountain streams and high-altitude passes (2000m). Experience Mongolia’s wild beauty as you traverse this remote, untamed terrain. (250 km on dirt roads)
Day 8 Kharkhorin
Travel to the historic city of Kharkhorin, once the capital of Genghis Khan’s empire. Covering 310 km, the journey is mostly on smooth, paved roads, making for a comfortable drive.
Day 9 Ongiin Monastery & River
Venture into the Gobi Desert, covering 230 km on rugged dirt roads. Arrive at the haunting Ongiin Monastery ruins, once a major Buddhist center, now a tranquil riverside retreat. (5-hour drive)
Day 10 The Flaming Cliffs
Journey deeper into the Gobi to the legendary Flaming Cliffs, where the first dinosaur eggs were discovered. Explore the surreal red sandstone formations before heading to your ger camp. (240 km, 4.5-hour drive on dirt roads)
Day 11 Mandalgobi
Head north to Mandalgobi, a gateway between the desert and the steppe. Travel 310 km on mostly paved roads for a smoother ride. (4-5 hours)
Day 12 Return To Ulaanbaatar
Drive back to Ulaanbaatar, stopping at the colossal Chinggis Khan Statue, an iconic tribute to Mongolia’s legendary ruler. In the evening, enjoy a farewell dinner at a local restaurant. (240 km, 4-5 hours)
Day 13 Departure
Transfer to the airport for your departure flight. (80-minute drive)
